Best UserVoice Alternatives in 2024

Published in
Key takeaways:

UserVoice is a software that allows you to collect and manage customer feedback in order to improve your product, generally a SaaS product. It was one of the first products of this type, launched in 2008. Today there's no lack of alternatives to UserVoice.

Over the years, UserVoice has gotten bloated with maybe too many features, the design has gotten outdated, the price tag has risen dramatically. It's now difficult to test it without getting on a demo with a sales representative. It's clear that they're aiming at higher-end corporate clients.

The price for UserVoice is not even listed on their website, but with some research you'll find a basic UserVoice subscription will cost you at least $499 per month.

There are a number of alternatives that do the job much better, with a more fresh, modern design and an inexpensive price tag. FeedBear is one of those tools, and our recommendation.

What UserVoice customers complain about

From reading reviews and doing some research, it's easy to find out UserVoice customer, while generally quite happy with the tool, have some serious concerns with the functionality.

  • UserVoice customers report a lot about duplicate requests, which means that users' votes for the same feature request are frequently diluted across multiple, similar proposals.
  • Another major concern is users must validate their email to provide feedback or send an idea, which some people find inconvenient and will likely result in fewer submissions from. If you're trying to lower friction and gather as much input as possible from users, this is not a good start.
  • UserVoice doesn't include a public roadmap feature, so use it only if you're planning to share your roadmap with users part of your organization.
  • Many customers are dissatisfied with the user experience, which is anything but simple. The design is dated and the many features make the product hard to use.
  • Customers frequently complain about a lack of options for customization.

Fortunately, there are now other product feedback tools on the market that do a better job and are less expensive than UserVoice.

Here are the UserVoice alternatives we recommend you look at.

Best UserVoice Alternatives in 2024

FeedBear

FeedBear is a simple tool to collect customer feedback and ideas, share a roadmap, and keep your users engaged and informed about new product features. FeedBear might be just what you're looking for if what you want is a simple tool to gather consumer feedback and suggestions, share a roadmap, and keep consumers engaged and informed about product features. Disclosure: I'm working on FeedBear.

The user interface and overall simplicity of use are two aspects where FeedBear will not let you down. When you look at client reviews, what FeedBear users like most is how simple it is to set up an account and begin collecting user feedback.

Customers can leave comments, submit suggestions, learn about what you're up to in your roadmap, and see your most recent updates to your product. It's really simple for non-technical users to use.

As a UserVoice alternative, FeedBear is a better choice if you want:

  • An up-to-date tool with a user-friendly interface - in minutes, you can create a feedback board, roadmap, and a changelog page.
  • Ease of use for your users, with no need for them to validate their email or create an account to submit an idea.
  • Duplicate requests are handled by automatically suggesting similar ideas and letting admins merge similar ideas together.
  • Control over all functionality, customizable design incl. branding and support for custom CSS.
  • Custom domain support, typically feedback.yourname.com or roadmap.yourname.com
  • Privacy features allowing you to use the tool with your team or to invite a select group of customers to contribute
  • SSO support, as well as social login and the option to allow anonymous votes

FeedBear's pricing is significantly less expensive, at only $29 per month for access to all features, unlimited boards, and unlimited users.

There's no comparison with UserVoice's $499 price tag, making FeedBear a truly accessible option for startups and small businesses.

Canny.io

Canny.io is a popular feedback management tool for a reason. Many consider it a valid UserVoice alternative. It's simple to use, and it has all of the functionality that you may need in a feedback system – unfortunately, it gets quite expensive as you grow your user base or if you want access to all features.

Like FeedBear, the product offers feedback boards, roadmaps, changelogs, status updates, and more. You may get feedback both internally and externally.

Canny has based their pricing structure on the number of users they track for you. A tracked user is someone who provides feature requests or interacts with your feedback board.

The cheapest plan, Starter, costs $50 per month and includes just 100 tracked users with 10 admin users. You do get unlimited boards in this plan, but you're missing out on some great features such as private boards, user segmentation, and admin roles. If you want more, you'll need to go for the Growth option at $200 per month.

Canny is a fantastic program, but it becomes quite expensive after you've gotten some traction. Customers on the Starter plan have a restricted set of features.

You'll need to pay at least $200 per month to get the most out of it, and you'll be limited to 1,000 users even then.

Productboard

Productboard is a powerful product management solution that includes almost everything you need for product management. You can consider it an UserVoice alternative, but it's much more.

If you're looking for a tool that can help you manage feedback, create roadmaps, and make announcements about new features, Productboard may be too much for you.

When viewed as a whole product solution, it does hold its own weight though.

The only drawback I've discovered so far is that Productboard has a user-based pricing model – but unlike Canny, these are admin users. You pay for "makers" per month. The minimum plan is $20 per month, and it covers one maker. Anyone on your team who manages your account is a maker.

The main disadvantage is that the most inexpensive plan does not allow you to link Productboard with other sources of feedback. The Pro plan at $50 per maker per month includes an integration with Jira and the ability to manage several products.

The prices listed above may look attractive, but bear in mind that they are per administrative user. You could easily spend hundreds of dollars each month just by inviting your whole product team.

Because it's designed as a whole product management solution, it offers a wide range of product management capabilities. This means may be too complex for someone just seeking for basic feedback management, roadmap and changelog features.

Aha!

Aha! Provides all of the features a larger product team would require for managing roadmaps, from start to finish. Unlike UserVoice, it doesn't just provide roadmaps and user feedback; it also includes everything a team of developers, product managers, and customer support staff need to enhance their product.

Overall, Aha! is a fantastic solution for a company looking for a comprehensive product management tool. If you have a large product team that's willing to learn how to use it and put in the time, this is an excellent option.

The pricing is just as hard to figure out as the product. It's broken down into Aha! Roadmaps (for roadmaps), Aha! Ideas! (for collecting user feedback and managing your audience), and Aha! Develop (an agile development tool comparable to Jira).

The problem is that in order to truly "close the feedback loop", you'll need both Aha! Ideas and Aha! Roadmaps, which cost $59 and $39 per user per month for the cheapest plans. Note that Ideas requires a minimum of 3 users. So overall, the cheapest you can get the combo for is $179/month.

If you’re looking for a simple, clean user interface and an easy way to manage roadmaps and user feedback, FeedBear or Canny will serve you better.

Feature Upvote

Feature Upvote is an idea board tool with voting features. Your users can easily submit ideas, comment and upvote on other ideas.

Pricing starts at $99/month, so already more expensive than FeedBear and Canny.

The feature set is intentionally limited - no Roadmap tools or widgets, for example, the only way to collect feedback is through the ideas board.

Trello

Trello is an excellent tool for managing projects using simple boards – we love it and use it for a lot of internal processes at MobiLoud. It's free to use for basic tasks and you can set up a board to collect feedback and requests. You can use a free Trello plan for this, no problem.

The main issue with Trello is users won't be able to submit new ideas with it, unless you invite them to the board (which you probably don't want to do). You can add voting using power-ups and comments are supported.

Can it be an alternative for UserVoice? Maybe. Things might get messy quite quickly as more and more people join the board. So most use it as a basic roadmap tool with no ability for new submissions from users.

Notion

Notion is an all-in-one workspace tool that can be used to manage wikis, task lists, databases and more. You can also use it internally to collect product feedback and share a roadmap, but it won't offer any voting functionality, and, crucially, it won't have a way for users to submit ideas or requests.

Conclusion

UserVoice is a fantastic tool for collecting customer feedback and enhancing your SaaS product. It isn't, however, the best option available.

Take a look at FeedBear instead if you're looking for a feedback tool with a simple and intuitive user interface and a very reasonable price, at just $29/month.
