Integrate Google Analytics with your Mobile apps

Google Analytics is a free and powerful website and app analytics platform.

Millions of websites and apps utilize Google Analytics to track everything from traffic, to conversions, to user behavior and demographics.

Google Analytics provides insights on how to improve your understanding of your website audience, their acquisition, behavior, and profitability. It helps you make data-informed changes to your online store, track visitor behavior, and understand traffic sources.

MobiLoud apps are natively integrated with Google Analytics. This allows you to track everything you need to track within your mobile apps, with no additional development required.

Google Analytics Features and Capabilities

Sites and apps of all sizes, from small projects to huge, billion-dollar properties, use Google Analytics to capture data and generate insights that shape future business decisions.

Here's a breakdown of what Google Analytics can do for you.

Performance and Reporting

Google Analytics comes with several eCommerce-specific metrics out-of-the-box, including:

  • Product Performance: This report shows how individual products are performing in terms of revenue, quantity sold, and conversion rates. You can use filters to focus on app users.
  • Sales Performance: This report breaks down revenue by transaction and shows detailed information about each sale. You can analyze AOV and identify trends in customer spending within the app.
  • Shopping Behavior Analysis: This report visualizes the entire shopping journey, showing how users move through the stages from product views to checkout. Segment the report to focus on app users, which helps in understanding where users drop off and how the conversion rate differs in the app.
  • Checkout Behavior Analysis: Similar to the Shopping Behavior Analysis, but focused on the checkout process. This report is critical for analyzing the checkout completion rate and identifying potential barriers in the app's checkout process.

eCommerce Tracking Capabilities

With the unified view provided by Google Analytics for your website and app, you will be able to track all sorts of key eCommerce metrics without having to worry about extra tools and and set up.

Here are a few benefits of this integration:

  • Unified Data Collection: Since your website shares the same Google Analytics setup with the app, the data will be collected across both platforms without requiring extra set up, and keeping tracking and reporting consistent.
  • Cross-Platform Performance Analysis: You will be able to segment your data separately for the website and app, allowing you to not only generate custom reports for each platform, but also compare them and perform platform-specific improvements based on the data collected.

Google Analytics + MobiLoud Integration Overview

MobiLoud apps come with Google Analytics set up, out of the box, allowing you to track key data without adding additional code or functionality.

Google Analytics relies on JavaScript to track user interactions on your website. When a user views a product, adds an item to the cart, goes through the checkout process, or completes a purchase, these actions are all captured by Google Analytics through predefined events or custom eCommerce tracking code implemented on your site.

Since MobiLoud renders your website directly within the app, the same tracking mechanisms that apply to your website will also apply within the app. This includes all your existing set of metrics, custom events, and goals.

You can set up custom events in Google Analytics to track key eCommerce actions, such as purchases or cart abandonment on your website and it will also be tracked for your app. You can later then segment them to track each platform separately.

This is just one of the key advantages of MobiLoud, as you only need to worry about maintaining your website.

Google Analytics Mobile App Integration FAQs

1. Can you explain how Google Analytics work together to track eCommerce metrics, such as AOV, conversion rates, and CLTV, for both our app and website through MobiLoud?

Since your MobiLoud app uses your website for all the content, your existing Google Analytics (or any other analytics tool you have configured) will also track your app users out-of-the-box, including your existing set of metrics, custom events, and goals.

What’s important here is for you to adjust your Google Analytics setup, so you can separate the data that comes from the website from the data that comes from the app.

2. Are there any specific configurations required to ensure accurate tracking of revenue and eCommerce performance across both the app and website?

While all data tracked on your website will also be tracked for your app, you will still need a way to segment the data correctly.

To do this you will need to create a custom dimension in your Google Analytics account, and use Google Tag Manager to trigger a custom user property whenever users access your website via the app.

MobiLoud will assist you with getting these adjustments in place, so you really don’t have to worry about anything.

3. How can we effectively use UTMs and other methods to segment and filter app traffic from website traffic in Google Analytics, especially when analyzing eCommerce metrics?

MobiLoud provides you with an easy way to apply UTMs to all URLs that are loaded within your app, so you don’t even have to worry about adding parameters to the URLs you use in the app or that you send via push notifications.

Once the UTM injection is in place for your app, you will be able to filter all the data from your reports based on those.

4. What methods are available in Google Analytics for segmenting users based on their eCommerce behavior, such as frequent buyers versus first-time visitors?

There are two main methods that you can use to segment users in order to track them based on the platform that they use (app or website).

  • UTM Injection: This is by far the easiest approach since all you have to do is enable the UTM injection in your app configuration and provide the parameters that should be included in all URLs that are loaded in the app. MobiLoud will configure this for you so you don’t have to worry about anything.
  • Custom Dimensions: While setting up custom dimensions requires some extra adjustments, this is also a reliable method to segment your users based on the platform they use (app or website), especially if you prefer to not modify the URLs that are loaded in the app. MobiLoud can also assist with the full configuration for you.
5. Are there tools or reports within Google Analytics that help us compare eCommerce metrics like conversion rates, AOV, and CLTV across app and website platforms?

Yes, Google Analytics provides a complete interface for comparing metrics across different platforms.

You can create different comparisons using conditions based on dimensions and dimension values.

6. What are the best practices for tracking eCommerce events in Google Analytics, specifically for capturing data like AOV, conversion rates, and revenue per user?

Make sure to always segment your analytics data, so you get a clear view of important metrics based on the app vs. website.
