About the Company
Pan-Am Dental Laboratory is a provider of dental supplies in the US, manufacturing products such as dental prosthetics, crowns, bridges, dentures, night guards, and implants. They process around a thousand orders a day for dentists across the country.
That’s a lot of business, but still just a small piece of the market, with more than 3,000 dental apps in the US.
In a competitive market, where many other dental supply companies have their own app, Harry and and Pan-Am decided they needed an app too, to build deeper relationships with often fickle customers.
“Customers in this industry are not the most loyal. So we're always looking for a way to get an edge, whether it's end-to-end quality or, in this case, in customer communication and customer service.”
The Challenge
Pan-Am didn’t need to reinvent the wheel. What they primarily needed was their existing website converted into an app.
This would allow Pan-Am to communicate better with their customers, and make it easier for their customers order supplies, book pickups and get order status updates.
But despite their simple needs, developing a mobile app is still a complex task. None of their existing development team had any experience in this area, so it wasn’t something they could handle in-house.
“We had recently built our website and wanted to have a similar look to the app. Our needs were not overly complicated, but building something from scratch, we don't have any staff who have developed apps.”

“We had a request from some customers, and generally if we get requests from a handful of people we'd take that as a sign that there could be a larger group of our customers who would be interested in this kind of thing.”
“I wouldn't say it's revolutionized the way that our customers interact with us or the way that customer service is being handled, but for those customers who do want this type of solution, it's certainly a positive. And it's something that we can advertise.”
